About Jalpaiguri ...
Jalpaiguri is a serene and beautiful place in the foothills of the Himalayas. It is always known for 3Ts - Tea, Tourism & Timber. Out of the 3Ts, Tourism still holds an important role in the present day scenario. Jalpaiguri has not lost its natural beauty with time and is still a place which has everything to offer for a true nature lover including forests, mountains & tea gardens. Though this place has an immense potential for tourism development, but no concerted efforts has been initiated in this direction.
Jalpaiguri district lies between 26°16' and 27°0' North Latitude and between 88°4' and 89°53' East Longitude. It occupies an area of 6227 sq. km. In the north, the district is protected by Sikkim & Nepal - which is 130 km in aerial distance. In the South lies Coochbehar & Bangladesh which are 105 km in aerial distance. In its East lies Assam which is 560 km in aerial distance. In the West lies the queen of hills - Darjeeling at a distance of only 107 km. The whole town is connected with N.H- 31 and with some L.P.R. The district is surrounded by many rivers, in the west is Mahananda and in the east is Sankosh.
This district enjoys a temperate climate owing to its proximity to the hills and due to the surrounding forests, tea gardens and abundant streams and rivers. The temperature is neither at a high nor too low. Jalpaiguri virtually does not have a summer, sometimes a three or four days of rains invariably follow heat. In the colder months the temperature ranges between 10.7° C and 23.6 °C. In the summer it ranges between 21.3° C and 31.6°C. The average annual rainfall is approx. 3736 mm. The air is free from dust and other pollutants due to the presence of greenery all over the district.
