Neora Valley National Park was under the control of Divisional Manager, Kalimpong (Gen. & Spl.) Division. Subsequently it was transferred to Wild Life Division-I, Darjeeling, in 1992 and presently it is under control of Wild Life Division-II, Jalpaiguri since November 1995. The intention to declare the area as National Park under section 35 of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 was notified in 1986 vide Government of West Bengal , Forest Department, Forest Branch notification No. 1817-FOR/11B/-93/85-IV, dated: Calcutta, 17th April 1986. Final notification in terms of section 35(A) and section 35 (B) of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 declaring Neora Valley National Park came in 1992, vide Government Order No.9058-FOR 11B-84/83-II, Calcutta, 2nd December 1992. Total area of this National Park is 8800 ha. (88 sq. Km.).

National level significance :

Neora Valley National Park lies in the bio-geographical Zone 2. Significance of Neora Valley National Park at the national level is due to presence of following species included in Schedule-I, of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and subsequent amendments.
